30대 후반에 미국 대학을 탐방하다(예일, MIT, 하버드)

Day 09 (2023.11.05) in NY

 

피자가게 앞에서 줄을 섰다. 옆에는 한 남자분이 노래를 부르고 있다. 내 기준에서는 정말 잘 부르시는 것 같다. 수준급의 노래를 피자를 기다리며 감상할 수 있다니, 뉴욕은 어디에나 예술이 숨 쉬고 있다.

I lined up in front of the pizza shop. A man is singing next to me. I think he is a good singer by my standards. Art is everywhere in New York, where I can enjoy high-quality songs while waiting for pizza.

 

피자를 먹고 맥주집에 왔다. 옛날 팝송이 나왔는데 갑자기 다들 따라 부르기 시작했다. 여기서 살면 흥도 많아지고 자신감도 넘칠 것 같다. 저분들 덕분에 또 잊지 못할 뉴욕의 추억이 생겼다.

I came to the beer place after eating pizza. An old pop song came out and suddenly everyone started singing along. If I live here, I think I'll be full of excitement and confidence. Thanks to them, I have unforgettable memories of New York.

 

 

Day 10 (2023.11.06) in NY

 

오늘은 보스턴에 있는 대학교 투어가 있다. 시간이 없어 아침으로 카페라테를 마신다. 커피로 아침을 해결하는 바쁜 뉴요커들을 위해 뉴욕은 커피의 맛과 문화가 발전한 것 같다.

I have a university tour in Boston today. I don't have time, so I drink cafe latte for breakfast. For busy New Yorkers who drink coffee for the breakfast New York seems to have developed the taste and culture of coffee.

 

보스턴 가는 길에 예일대학교를 들렸다. 가을 분위기가 물씬 난다. 이 넓은 광장에서 졸업식을 한다고 한다. 많은 학생들이 잔디에 앉아 즐겁게 대화하는 모습이 그려진다. 예일대 학생인 척 캠퍼스를 걸어본다. 학교 안에 들어가 보고 싶었는데 외부인 출입 금지라서 아쉽다. 예일대 도서관에 들어왔다. 공부가 막 저절로 하고 싶어지는 공간이다. 예일대를 다니는 한국 학생들이 정말 존경스럽다.

We stopped by Yale University on our way to Boston. It has the autumnal atmosphere. Graduation ceremony is held in this big square. I'm pictured many students sitting on the lawn having a pleasant conversation. I walk around campus pretending to be a Yale student. I wanted to go inside the school, but it's too bad that outsiders aren't allowed in. I came into the Yale library. It's a space where I want to study on my own. I really respect Korean Yale students.

 

드디어 보스턴에 도착했다. 뉴욕과는 사뭇 다른 도시의 모습이다. 얌전하면서도 고급 진 느낌이다. 엄청 큰 크리스마스트리를 만들려나 보다. 먼저 점심을 먹기로 했다. 저 Quincy Market 건물 안에 여러 음식점들이 있다고 한다.

We finally arrived in Boston. It's a very different city from New York. It feels calm and luxurious. I guess they're going to make a huge Christmas tree. We decided to have lunch first. There are several restaurants in that Quincy Market building.

 

추운 날씨지만 저렇게 열정적으로 공연하는 아티스트가 있다. 저분은 굉장히 프로답다는 생각이 들었다. 건물 안에는 다양한 음식점들이 있다. 다 맛있어 보인다. 보스턴은 바다 근처에 있어서 해산물이 맛있다고 한다. 그중에서 특히 랍스터가 유명하다. 그래서 나는 랍스터 샌드위치를 먹을까 한다.

It's cold, but there's an artist who performs so passionately. I thought that she was very professional. There are various restaurants in the building. Everything looks delicious. Boston is near the sea, so they say seafood is delicious. Lobster is especially famous among them. So I'm thinking about eating lobster sandwiches.

 

랍스터 샌드위치를 받아서 먹을 수 있는 곳으로 이동했다. 테이블은 자리가 없어서 서서 먹는 곳에 자리를 잡았다. 이제는 오히려 서서 먹는 게 편하다. 손으로 먹을 거라 물티슈로 손을 깨끗하게 닦는다. 이렇게 비스킷을 따로 준다. 열어서 클램 차우더 수프 안에 넣는다. 수프는 촉촉하고 바삭하니 맛있다. 빵은 촉촉하고 부드럽고 토실토실한 랍스터가 많이 들어있다. 랍스터 샌드위치는 진짜 또 먹고 싶다.

I got a lobster sandwich and moved to a place where I could eat it. There was no seat at the table, so I settled down where I could stand and eat. Now it's easier to eat while standing up. I'm going to eat with my hands, so wipe my hands clean with wet wipes. They give me biscuits separately. Open and put in the clam chowder soup. The soup is moist and crispy and delicious. Bread is moist, soft and contains a lot of fluffy lobster. I really want to eat lobster sandwiches again.

 

MIT에 도착했다. 공학을 공부한 나에게는 보스턴에서는 하버드 대학보다 MIT를 더 와보고 싶었다. 인공지능 연구소 건물에 들어왔다. IT 기술이 들어간 디스플레이가 보인다. 내 동작에 맞게 물감이 움직이는 것 같다. 뭔가 알 수 없는 것들이 많다. 여기 있는 한 명 한 명이 다 천재겠지? 학교 건물 안으로 들어왔다. 진짜 상상하던 미국 공대 학교 모습이다. 첨단 장비들이 많이 있는 것 같다. 여기 인재들이 지구를 지키는 멋진 기술들을 많이 개발해 줬으면 좋겠다.

We've arrived at MIT. For me who studied engineering, I wanted to come to MIT more than Harvard University in Boston. We've entered the AI lab building. I see a display with IT technology. I think the paint is moving according to my movement. There are a lot of unknown things. every one here is a genius, right? We came into the building. It's the American engineering Univ I imagined. There seems to be a lot of high-tech equipment. I hope the talented people here will develop a lot of great technologies to protect the earth.

 

하버드 대학 탐방까지 마치고 이제 자유 시간이다. MIT 굿즈를 너무 사고 싶었는데 가이드님께서 하버드에서 사면된다고 하셨다. 부랴부랴 근처 기프트숍으로 가고 있다. 하버드 굿즈가 정말 많다. 사방을 살핀 끝에 MIT 굿즈를 겨우 발견했다. 하지만 마음에 드는 게 없어서 아쉬웠다.

I've finished my tour of Harvard University and now I'm free time. I really wanted to buy MIT goods, but the guide told me that I could buy them from Harvard. I'm rushing to a nearby gift shop. There are so many Harvard goods. After looking everywhere, I finally found MIT goods. But I was sad that I didn't like anything.
