뉴욕 고층빌딩에 산다면 어떤 기분일까? 뉴요커들 속에 스며들고 싶다

Day 08 (2023.11.04) in NY

 

노을이 지는 시간대로 전망대를 예약했다. 정신없이 있다 보니, 전망대 입장시간에 늦을 것 같았다. 입장시간에 늦지 않기 위해 전망대까지 엄청 달렸다. 퇴근하고 맨해튼 도시를 러닝 하는 뉴요커들을 보면서 그들은 어떤 기분일까 궁금했다. 직접 뛰고 보니 어떤 기분인지 알 것 같다. 공기가 좋지 않지만 기분은 상쾌했다.

I reserved an observation deck for the sunset. Since I was busy, I thought I would be late for the observatory entrance. I ran all the way to the observatory so that I wouldn't be late for the entrance. Watching New Yorkers running around Manhattan after work, I wondered how they would feel. Now that I'm running, I know how it feels. The air was not good, but I felt refreshed.

 

전망대에서 뉴욕이 한눈에 보인다. 저 멀리에 노을이 보인다. 곧 나올 야경이 기대된다. 뉴욕이 내 발아래에 있는 기분이 들어 뭐든 할 수 있다는 자신감이 잠깐 들었다. 내가 만약 뉴욕에 산다면 저렇게 높은 아파트에 살고 싶었다. 하지만 창 밖 풍경, 지나가는 사람들 모습, 고양이가 노는 모습 등을 보고 싶다. 그래서 적당히 낮은 높이에서 살고 싶다는 생각도 든다.

I can see New York at a glance from the observatory. I can see the sunset in the distance. I'm looking forward to the night view that will come out soon. I felt like New York was under my feet, so I had a moment of confidence that I could do anything. If I lived in New York, I wanted to live in such a high apartment. But I want to see the scenery outside the window, people passing by, cats playing, etc. That's why I want to live at a reasonably low height.

 

뉴욕에 살고 있는 친구의 소개로 워런버핏이 자주 갔다는 스테이크 하우스에 왔다. 밥 먹기 전 손 소독은 필수다. 나는 여행하러 왔는데 코로나에  걸리면 안 된다. 여행 중에 아프면 서럽다.

I came to the steakhouse where Warren Buffett often went thanks to my friend who lives in New York. It is essential to sanitize my hands before eating. I’m here to travel and I shouldn't catch COVID. I'm sad when I'm sick while traveling.

 

친구를 기다리는 동안 사람들을 구경하며 식전빵을 먹는다. 분위기 있는 곳에서 나만 복장이 패딩이라 민망하다. 하지만 상황에 맞지 않는 옷을 입어도 여행객이라서 사람들이 이해해 주는 것 같다.

I watch people and eat bread while I wait for my friend. I'm embarrassed because I'm the only one wearing padded jackets in a moody place. But even if I wear clothes that don't fit the situation, people seem to understand because I am a traveler

 

드디어 주문한 음식이 나왔다. 양상추 메뉴랑 돼지고기 메뉴가 나왔다. 양상추가 아삭아삭 하니 정말 맛있다. 강력 추천한다. 하이라이트인 스테이크가 나왔다. 부드럽고 맛있는데 양도 푸짐하다. 화장실에 휴지 대신 수건이 있다. 고급스러움과 센스가 느껴진다. 친구 덕분에 입과 눈이 호강하는 저녁이다.

Finally, the food I ordered came out. We have lettuce and pork. The lettuce is crunchy and delicious. I highly recommend it. The highlight is steak. It's soft and delicious, but it's a lot. There is a towel in the bathroom instead of a tissue. I can feel the luxury and sense. It's an evening where my mouth and eyes are happy thanks to my friend.

 

 

Day 09 (2023.11.06) in NY

 

아침이 밝았다. 오늘도 즐겁게 음악을 들으며 여행을 준비한다. 강아지가 실종된 것 같다. 강아지가 어서 주인을 만났으면 좋겠다. 핼러윈 데코가 아직 남아있다. 귀여운 유령이다. 오늘도 다크서클과 함께한다. 휴대폰 알람이 지금 울려서 웃었다. 뉴저지에서 바라본 맨해튼은 또 다른 세계인 것 같다. 맨해튼의 스카이라인이 정말 다이내믹하다.

The morning has dawned. I’m preparing for my trip by listening to music. It looks like the dog is missing. I hope the dog meets the owner soon. There are still Halloween decorations left. It's a cute ghost. I'm with dark circles today, too. I laughed because my cell phone alarm went off. Manhattan from New Jersey seems to be another world. The skyline in Manhattan is really dynamic.

 

음료를 시키고 잠시 화장실을 다녀왔다. 화장실 다녀온 사이에 내 이름을 부르셨나 싶어서 나는 직원에게 문의하기 위해 카운터 앞에 섰다. 카운터 앞에 서서 문의할 내용을 영어로 생각하던 차에 한 직원이 “한국분이세요?”라고 말했다. 내가 한국사람인지 어떻게 아셨는지 무척 신기하면서도 반가웠다. 그분에게 그냥 한국말로 편하게 문의했고 나는 음료를 받을 수 있었다. 낯선 곳에서 모국어로 대화한다는 게 참 좋았다. 카페에 한 동안 앉아서 따듯함을 충전했다.

I ordered a drink and went to the bathroom for a while. I was wondering if they called my name while I was in the bathroom, so I stood in front of the counter to ask the staff. I was standing in front of the counter and thinking about what to ask in English An employee said, "Are you Korean?”. It was very interesting and nice to see how she knew that I was Korean. I asked her comfortably in Korean and I was able to get a drink. It was nice to talk in my native language in a strange place. I sat in the cafe for a while and charged myself with warmth.

 

Mayc’s 백화점에 왔다. 나무로 된 에스컬레이터를 지금도 운영하고 있다. 이 처럼 뉴욕은 오래된 것과 새로운 것이 섞여 있어 더욱 매력적인 도시인 것 같다. 청설모랑 부엉이 인형이 움직여서 귀엽고 재밌다. 이 인형을 보고 사람들이 행복한 표정을 하고 있다. 그들을 보니 나까지 행복해진다.

I came to Mayc's department store. They still operate wooden escalators. Like this, New York seems to be a more attractive city because of its mix of old and new. Eurasian Red Squirrel and owl doll move, so it's cute and fun. People look happy when they see this doll. Seeing happy people makes me happy

 

뉴욕 국제 마라톤이 한창이다. 뉴요커들은 아침부터 저녁까지 마라톤에 참가한 사람들을 열정적으로 응원해 준다. 아는 사이도 아닐 텐데 이렇게 응원해 주는 뉴요커들이 정말 대단하다. 뉴욕은 정말 열정적인 도시다. 사람들이 손을 내밀면 마라톤을 뛰는 사람들이 하이파이브를 해준다. 나도 손을 내밀었지만 내 손에는 사람들이 하이파이브를 해주지 않아서 서운했다. 자원봉사자들도 있다. 뉴욕은 굉장히 자유롭지만 그 안에서 또 질서가 있고 뉴요커들의 헌신이 있음을 느꼈다.

The New York International Marathon is in full swing. New Yorkers cheer enthusiastically for the marathon participants from morning to evening. they don't even know each other, but I'm really amazed by the New Yorker who are cheering for them. New York is a really passionate city. When people reach out, they running a marathon give them a high five. I also reached out my hand, but I was sad that people didn't give me high fives. There are also volunteers. New York is very free, but I felt that there was also order and New Yorker’s dedication within it.

 

리틀 이태리에 있는 크리스마스 가게에 왔다. 엄청 큰 공간에 다양한 크리스마스 용품이 있다. 입이 다물어지지 않는다. 뉴욕이 크리스마스에 진심이라고 느껴진다. 가게 직원분이 텐션도 높고 사람들을 즐겁게 해 주신다. 레고스토어도 그렇고 지금 이 크리스마스 가게도 그렇고, 뉴욕은 가게 콘셉트와 맞는 직원을 잘 뽑는 것 같다. 훌륭한 매장 직원이 가게의 성공 요인 중 하나라는 것을 다시 한번 느꼈다. 이 초콜릿케이크 장식품은 촉감도 진짜 케이크 같이 부드럽고 촉촉하다.

I came to a Christmas shop in Little Italy. There's a lot of Christmas items in a huge space. I can not keep my mouth shut. I feel like New York is serious about Christmas. The staff at the store is very excited and makes people happy. The Lego store and this Christmas store are both good at choosing employees that match the concept of the store. I felt once again that a good store employee was one of the factors of the store's success. This chocolate cake ornaments are soft and moist like a real cake.
