Day 02 (2023.10.29) in NY

 

비가 오지만 바람막이만 입고 거리를 걷고 있다. 뉴욕 거리는 좁아서 우산을 쓰면 통행할 때 불편하다. 그래서 뉴요커 들은 우산을 잘 안 쓰는 것 같다. 비가 오니까 확실히 거리에 이상한 냄새가 좀 덜 나는 것 같다. 차분해진 뉴욕이다.

It's raining, but I'm walking down the street wearing only a windbreaker. The streets of New York are narrow, so it is uncomfortable to use umbrellas when passing through. That's why New Yorkers don't seem to use umbrellas that much. It's raining, so there's definitely less of a strange smell on the streets. It's New York that's calmed down.

 

핼러윈 축제를 앞두고 있어 곳곳에 핼러윈 장식이 많이 보인다. 유명한 뉴욕 지하철을 드디어 타 본다. 일단 생각보다는 깔끔하고 안전한 느낌이다. 친구의 추천으로 Artechous라는 곳에서 전시를 봤다. 우주를 경험할 수 있어서 신기했다. 누워서 보고 있다가 나도 모르게 30분 정도 꿀잠을 잤다. 우주에서 잠든 기분이 들어서 재밌었다. Printed matter라는 서점에 갔다. 인형들 때문에 안에 들어가고 싶어진다. 서점 안에 인형들이 창 밖을 본다는 연출이 좋았다. 서점 안은 상상의 세계로 가득 찬 것 같았다.

I see a lot of Halloween decorations here and there as the Halloween festival is just around the corner. I’m finally taking the famous New York subway. First of all, it feels cleaner and safer than you think. I saw an exhibition at Artechous at my friend's recommendation. It was amazing to experience the universe. I was watching it lying down and I slept like a half an hour without realizing it. It was fun because I felt like I was asleep in space. I went to a bookstore called Printed Matter. I wanted to go inside because of the dolls. I liked the way the dolls in the bookstore looked out the window. The bookstore seemed to be full of imaginary worlds.

 

하이라인 위를 드디어 걸어본다. 비가 내렸지만 달리기를 하는 사람도 있다. 뉴욕에서는 사람들이 강해지는 것 같다. 비가 와도 그냥 걷고 좀 추워도 거리에서 밥을 먹는다. 뉴욕에 산다면 하이라인 근처에 살고 싶다. 언제든 뛰고 산책할 수 있는 곳이 집에서 가까웠으면 좋겠다.

I'm finally walking on the High Line It's raining, but some people are running. People seem to be getting stronger in New York. Even if it rains, they just walk and eat on the street even if it's a cold. If I live in New York, I want to live near the High Line. I hope a place where I can run and take a walk anytime is close to my home.

Day 03 (2023.10.30) in NY

 

비 온 다음날이라 그런가 조금 흐린 아침이다. 10월도 끝나가고 이제 완전한 가을의 느낌이다. 사람들의 옷도 조금씩 두꺼워지고 있다. 벌써 크리스마스 장식이 있다. 건물에 Dior saks이라는 멋진 전시작품이 있다. 심지어 움직인다고 한다. 크리스마스가 되면 더 화려해진다. 이를 참고해서 우리나라 백화점들이 건물 외관에 미디어아트를 설치하기 시작했다는 썰도 있다.

It's a little cloudy because it's the day after the rain. October is coming to an end, and now it feels like autumn. People's clothes are getting thicker, too. There are already Christmas decorations. There is a wonderful exhibition called Dior Saks in the building. It's even said to move. It gets more colorful at Christmas. Referring to this, there is a rumor that Korean department stores have begun to install media art on the exterior of buildings.

 

Rockefeller Center 아이스링크장에 왔다. 아직 춥지 않아서 바닥이 얼음이 아니라 다른 소재가 아닐까 생각했지만 가까이 가보니 냉기가 있어서 얼음은 맞는 것 같다. 영화에서 자주 봤던 곳에 직접 와 있는 게 신기했다. Rockefeller Center에서 Dior saks이 보인다. 구도가 완벽하다. NBC스튜디오를 지나가는 길에 우연히 르세라핌을 만났다. 나를 보고 웃으며 손 흔들어 줘서 심장 터졌다. 미국에서 한국 연예인을 만나니 반갑고 마음이 따듯했다.

I'm here at the Rockefeller Center ice rink. It's not cold yet, so I thought the floor might be made of something other than ice, but when I got closer, there was cold air, so I think it's ice. It was amazing that I came to the place I often saw in the movie. Dior saks can be seen in the Rockefeller Center. The composition is perfect. I came across LE SSERAFIM on my way to the NBC studio. They smiled and waved at me, and my heart exploded. It was nice to meet a Korean celebrity in the U.S. and warm heart.

 

뉴욕에서 일하고 있는 친구와 점심을 먹었다. 바빴을 텐데 점심시간에 나와 함께 밥을 먹어준 친구에게 정말 감사하다. 소문대로 미국 중식은 정말 맛있었다. 밥도 부드럽고 음식도 훌륭했다. 뉴욕은 점심시간이 없다고 한다. 그 대신 한 시간 일찍 퇴근한다. 점심은 일하면서 간단히 먹거나 중간에 잠깐 나가서 먹는다고 한다. 그래서 그런지 스트릿 푸드가 발달했고 거리에서 밥을 먹는 게 자연스럽구나 생각했다.

I had lunch with a friend who works in New York. I’m so thankful to my friend who ate with me during lunch time even though he must have been busy. As I heard, the American Chinese food was really good The rice was soft and the food was wonderful. There is no lunch break in New York. Instead, they leave work an hour early. They say that they eat light lunch while working or go out for a while. Maybe that's why street food has developed and I thought it's natural to eat on the street.

 

친구와 헤어지고 나는 UN투어를 위해 UN본부로 가고 있다. 핼러윈 장식이 근사하고 귀엽다. UN본부 근처에 주 유엔 대한민국대표부도 있다. 낯선 땅에서 한국과 관련된 걸 만나면 항상 반갑다. un본부 건물은 웅장하다. 외교관에 대한 로망이 있어서 여기를 와보고 싶었다. UN역대 사무총장 그림이다. 반가운 얼굴도 보인다.

After Saying goodbye to my friend I am going to the UN headquarters for the UN tour. Halloween decorations are nice and cute. There is Permanent Mission of the Republic of Korea to the United Nations near the UN headquarters. It's always nice to see something related to Korea in a strange land. The UN headquarters building is magnificent. I wanted to come here because I wanted to be a diplomat. It's a picture of the UN Secretary-General. I can see familiar face.

 

회의실마다 회의 주제가 있다. 다양한 회의실에 대해 가이드님이 설명해 주셨다. 나는 회의실 자리에 앉았다. 내가 회의에 참석한 상상을 해보고 재밌어서 혼자 웃었다. 회의실에 있는 의자나 벽화 등은 여러 나라에서 기증한 것이다. 이렇게 기증을 통해 그 나라의 이미지도 좋아지는 것 같다. 꼭 UN에서 일하지 않아도 내가 하는 일이 다 세계 평화를 위한다고 생각해 보면 어떨까…

There is a conference room for every meeting topic. The guide explained about the various conference room. I sat down in the conference room. I imagined myself attending the meeting and laughed alone because it was fun. The chairs and murals in the conference room have been donated by many countries. I think the donation will improve the image of the country. Even if I don't have to work at the UN, what if I think that everything I do is for world peace...

 

맨해튼 동쪽 거리를 산책했다. 이쪽은 좀 더 깔끔하고 관광객이 별로 없는 것 같다. 미드타운은 관광객도 많고 건물도 화려해서 놀이동산에 와 있는 기분이었다. 반면에 여기 맨해튼 동쪽은 학교도 많아서 조용하고 평화롭다. 뉴욕은 이쁘고 멋진 건물들이 많아서 걷기만 해도 재밌다.

I took a walk on the streets east of Manhattan. It's a little cleaner and there aren't many tourists Midtown has a lot of tourists and the buildings are fancy. I felt like I was at an amusement park. On the other hand, there are many schools here in east Manhattan, so it is quiet and peaceful. New York has many beautiful and wonderful buildings, so it is fun to walk.

 

Strand Book Store에 갔다. 특이한 책들이 정말 많았다. 뉴욕이 개성 넘치는 이유 중 하나가 특이한 책들을 어려서부터 읽어서 그런가 싶었다. 쿠키로 유명한 Levaing Bakery에 줄을 섰다. 직원이 순서가 됐다고 손짓했지만 보지 못했다. 그래서 뒤에 아저씨가 들어가라고 말씀해 주셨다. 민망하지만 즐거운 추억이 또 생겼다. 바람이 많이 불어서 헤어가 이상해졌다. 오늘의 일정을 마치고 숙소로 가는 길이다. 바닥에 연기를 종종 보는데 영화의 한 장면 같아서 멋지다. 베트맨의 고담시가 떠오른다.

I went to Strand Book Store. There were so many unusual books. One of the reasons why New York is so unique is because people read such unusual books from a young age. I lined up at Leaving Bakery, famous for cookies. The staff beckoned that it was my turn, but I didn't see it. So the guy in the back told me to go in. I’m embarrassed but I have another good memory. The wind blew a lot, so my hair got weird. I’m on my way to the hotel after finishing today's schedule. I often see the smoke on the floor, but it's cool because it's like a scene from a movie. It reminds me of Batman's Gotham City.
