It is okay even if a house is small. As long as there is a park within walking distance and a table available for anyone to sit at, our homes become much wider than we think.
It is said that even if New Yorkers live in cramped apartments, their actual living radius is quite large because there are many parks within walking distance and art museums are free. Looking back at my childhood, the size of the house did not matter much because I spent so much time in the yard, the playground, and the alleys. Even as an adult, I believe I could be happy enough if there were plenty of such public shelters around my home.
Fortunately, there is a building I love near my house. It has plenty of chairs and tables on each of the lower floors, making it a place where anyone can sit and rest comfortably. I eat lunch boxes, play board games, and study there with my friends. In those moments, I feel as if my home has expanded significantly. I hope more of these spaces will be created everywhere.
